The Historic Singsaas Country Church

We Have a Rich History and an Interesting Story to Tell

The doors of the Singsaas church opened way back in 1874, when a group of Norwegians settled in the area. These first settlers came from Singsas Norway, which is where our church gets its name. Close ties still remain between nearby Hendricks, Minnesota, and the town of Singsas, Norway.

Our Musical History

Throughout our 130+ year history, many things have changed. However, one thing has remained constant - our love of beautiful hymns and country church music.

Our sound is simple, pure, and unique. The songs we sing today in our beautiful prairie church are the same songs our forefathers sang over 130 years ago. It's almost as though time has stood still out here, in honor of the beautiful music sung through the decades to honor God, who has so richly blessed us.

Our Recordings

We invite you to listen to our music and share our story. We hope you will be inspired by our pure and beautiful music. The following CDs are available:

  • Christmas in the Old Country Church - A collection of beautiful Christmas music recorded live at our annual Christmas program, held every December 26th.
  • Today's Country Church and Their Sweet Hour of Prayer - A collection of our favorite old-time hymns.
  • Music on a String - A collection of music played by a psalmodikon quartet. A psalmodikon is a one-stringed instrument played with a bow. It was widely used in Norwegian churches starting around 1830 to lead hymn singing.
